The group made the announcement in a statement dated October 24, 2025, and signed by its National Spokesman, Chief Chinyereze Thompson Ohia. According to the statement, the decision was reached after consultations involving the leadership of Ohanaeze, governors from the Southeast, prominent Igbo political figures, and stakeholders both within Nigeria and in the Diaspora.

Ohia explained that the endorsement represents a gesture of gratitude to President Tinubu for his significant infrastructural investments in the Southeast, particularly the ₦1.5 trillion allocation for federal road construction across the region.

He noted that the collective agreement within the organization affirms Tinubu as the only candidate deserving of overwhelming Igbo support in 2027, citing his ongoing efforts to transform infrastructure in the Southeast as a major factor behind the decision.

The statement also praised the Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, describing him as a reliable partner of the President and a key figure capable of uniting the region in support of Tinubu’s re-election.

In addition, Ohanaeze confirmed its endorsement of Governor Alex Otti of Abia State and Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State for second terms in office, applauding their reform-driven leadership and alignment with the developmental goals of both Umahi and Tinubu.

Ohia added that residents of Abia and Ebonyi States had expressed strong support for the governors’ re-election, emphasizing that both leaders have delivered results consistent with the expectations of the Igbo people.

Reaffirming unity within the region, the organization stated that the Southeast remains firmly behind President Tinubu’s leadership and will work collectively to ensure his victory in 2027. It also cautioned political opponents against moves to undermine the endorsed governors, warning that any such attempts would face a united response from the Igbo populace.

Ohia concluded by urging all Igbos to stand behind President Tinubu as the 2027 polls approach, describing the endorsement as both a statement of confidence and a rallying call for collective action.
