PDP Slams Defence Minister Matawalle for Turning Office Into Political Hub
The PDP has accused Defence Minister Bello Matawalle of turning his office into an APC campaign base.
The party urged President Tinubu to caution him and refocus efforts on tackling insecurity.
Political tensions have intensified in Zamfara State as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) accused the Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Muhammad Matawalle, of using his official position for partisan purposes instead of addressing the worsening insecurity in the state.

In a statement issued by its Publicity Secretary, Halliru Andi, the PDP said Matawalle’s actions were unbecoming of a national security officer, claiming the Defence Ministry now functions more like an APC campaign centre than a federal institution.
The party alleged that while residents across Zamfara continue to face daily threats from kidnappers and bandits, the Minister has been preoccupied with hosting political gatherings and welcoming defectors within government facilities.
The statement condemned what it called the “conversion of a sensitive security office into a venue for political meetings,” stressing that such conduct shows disregard for the suffering of citizens who live in fear across the state. It urged that the Defence Ministry should be focused on developing real security measures rather than partisan events.
The PDP also appealed to President Bola Tinubu to intervene immediately by cautioning Matawalle, stopping all political activities taking place within Defence House, and ordering a probe into how official premises are being used.
It emphasized that the Defence Ministry must remain neutral and professional, warning that turning it into a political base undermines public confidence and diverts attention from the fight against insecurity.
According to the PDP, Zamfara remains one of the states worst affected by attacks and mass abductions, especially in local government areas such as Maradun, where residents still face frequent assaults.
The party concluded that national security should never be treated as a political tool, calling on Matawalle to channel his energy into protecting citizens instead of promoting party interests.
