Tinubu Appoints New Defence Chiefs, Replaces Gen. Musa with Oluyede
President Bola Tinubu has appointed new Service Chiefs to strengthen Nigeria’s security system.
Major General Olufemi Oluyede now leads as Chief of Defence Staff, with all changes taking effect immediately.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved major changes in the leadership of Nigeria’s Armed Forces as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s security system.

The announcement was made on Friday in Abuja through a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare.
According to the statement, Major General Olufemi Oluyede has been appointed as the new Chief of Defence Staff, replacing General Christopher Musa. The President also approved the appointment of Major General W. Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff, while Air Vice Marshal S. K. Aneke becomes the new Chief of Air Staff. Rear Admiral I. Abbas has been named Chief of Naval Staff, while E. A. P. Undiendeye will continue in his position as Chief of Defence Intelligence.
President Tinubu praised the outgoing Service Chiefs for their commitment, discipline, and service to the nation. He expressed appreciation for their efforts in maintaining stability and combating insecurity during their tenure.
He urged the newly appointed military heads to demonstrate integrity, professionalism, and teamwork in carrying out their duties. The President also charged them to sustain unity within the Armed Forces and to continue working towards protecting Nigeria’s territorial integrity and peace.
The statement confirmed that all appointments are to take effect immediately, marking another step in the administration’s ongoing reforms to enhance national defence and improve the country’s security architecture.
