Hisbah Arrests 25 Over Alleged Same-Sex Marriage in Kano

Hisbah officers in Kano arrested people accused of planning a same sex marriage event.

The board insists such gatherings violate public morals and pledged stronger enforcement across the state.

The Kano State Hisbah Board says it has taken 25 people into custody over an alleged attempt to hold a same-sex marriage event in the Hotoro area of the city.

The arrests were carried out on Saturday at the Fatima Event Centre along the Hotoro bypass after the board received intelligence about the gathering.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Deputy Commander of the board, Mujahedeen Aminudeen, revealed that those detained include 18 men and seven women.

Aminudeen said operatives moved into the venue shortly after the report was received and disrupted what authorities described as an unlawful ceremony. He noted that the groom and other attendees came from various parts of the state, including Sheka, Yar Gaya and Kofar Nasarawa.

He stressed that the agency will continue to intervene against activities it considers harmful to the moral conduct and public image of Kano State, adding that the board remains committed to enforcing Sharia-based regulations in the state.
