NRC Announces Resumption of Warri–Itakpe Train Operations
Warri Itakpe train service resumes Wednesday after major repairs aimed at improving rail safety.
NRC says passengers can expect smoother journeys with upgraded tracks and enhanced monitoring systems.
The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced that the Warri–Itakpe Train Service (WITS) will resume operations on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, following weeks of suspension to allow for major repairs and safety enhancements.

NRC’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Callistus Unyimadu, disclosed the development in a statement on Sunday, explaining that the temporary shutdown was required to restore infrastructure and ensure passengers enjoy safer and more reliable journeys.
According to him, engineers carried out extensive track rehabilitation, thorough system assessments, and servicing of the locomotives and coaches to enhance travel comfort and overall safety.
Online ticket reservations will reopen by 12 noon on Monday, October 27, via the NRC booking portal or through ticket offices at the designated stations ahead of the restart.
Once service resumes, the train will run with seven coaches six in standard class and one in business class. A revised timetable, including temporary speed control measures to support real-time safety monitoring, will also be released.
Unyimadu expressed appreciation to commuters for their patience during the downtime, assuring that the upgraded facilities will deliver better travel experiences going forward.
The Managing Director of NRC, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, reaffirmed the corporation’s pledge to strengthen safe, efficient, and dependable rail transportation along the Warri–Itakpe corridor.
The line, which links Delta, Edo, and Kogi States, remains a vital route for both passenger traffic and movement of goods between the South-South and North-Central regions.
