Elon Musk Launches Grokipedia, an AI-Powered Rival to Wikipedia
Elon Musk has launched Grokipedia, an online encyclopedia from his company xAI to challenge Wikipedia.
He says it aims to present truthful information, with AI creating millions of articles now.
Elon Musk has introduced a new online encyclopedia called Grokipedia, produced through his artificial intelligence company, xAI. The platform was launched on Monday and is being positioned as a competitor to Wikipedia, which Musk has often accused of having political bias.

The first version of Grokipedia, labeled as version 0.1, went live with more than 2.8 million articles. While this is a large number, it remains far below the size of Wikipedia’s English section, which features over seven million entries. Musk has already promised a much stronger future edition. According to him, version 1.0 will be ten times better than what users currently see. He also claimed the new platform is already better than Wikipedia.
Musk explained the goal of the service in a post on X. He said Grokipedia aims to present information that is based on truth. He added that while the system may not reach total accuracy, the company will make a strong effort to stay focused on truthful reporting.
The launch came later than planned. Musk previously said the rollout would take place at the end of September, but he postponed it because he wanted to remove what he described as propaganda from the content.
The billionaire has long expressed frustration with Wikipedia. He has said that the popular site favors left-leaning viewpoints and that editors on the platform often control information in a way he disagrees with. Musk has also argued that these issues make Wikipedia unsuitable to support features such as Community Notes on X.
Grokipedia uses artificial intelligence tools from xAI to produce its pages. The platform’s assistant, known as Grok, plays a major role in creating the content. An entry about Musk on the new platform suggests he has shaped ongoing conversations about technology, population concerns, and institutional behavior. The same article claims some traditional media outlets present unfair criticism because of their own political preferences.
Wikipedia, founded in 2001, works differently from Grokipedia. It is operated mainly by volunteers who contribute articles and edits. The site also says its policies are designed to keep content neutral and reliable, with the support of donations from users around the world.
