Police Confirm Failed Armed Attack in Ezinifite, One Suspect K!lled and Gun Recovered
Armed men attempted to storm Ezinifite community in Anambra but security forces stopped them.
One attacker d!ed in the shootout as officers continue searching for those who escaped into the bush.
Security presence has been strengthened in Ezinifite community in Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State after police officers and local vigilante operatives stopped an attempted armed attack in the early hours of Monday, October 27, 2025.
According to the Anambra State Police Command, a group of unknown gunmen tried to invade the community, but the joint security team reacted quickly. Their immediate response forced the attackers into a gun battle. One of the armed men was k!lled during the exchange, while the others ran into the nearby bush with possible gunshot wounds.
A pump action gun was recovered at the scene along with the body of the deceased suspect. Security officials are keeping the weapon and the remains for further investigation.

Police tactical units and intelligence officers have begun follow up operations in the area. Their aim is to find and arrest the fleeing attackers before they regroup or plan another violent act. The police also assured the public that every lead will be followed to ensure the suspects do not escape justice.
Residents of Ezinifite expressed relief after learning that the attack was stopped. Many said the courage of the police and the local vigilante gave them hope that criminals can be stopped before causing harm.
The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Ikioye Orutugu, praised the joint security efforts and the community security structure known as Agunechamba. He noted that the safety of residents remains a top priority, especially with the state preparing for the November 8, 2025 governorship election, a period when violent groups may attempt to disrupt peace.
Police authorities encouraged the public to remain alert and continue sharing useful information that can help protect communities from crime. They promised that more patrols and intelligence operations will continue across Nnewi South and the entire state to keep everyone safe.
