Woman and Daughter Drown While Returning From Farm in Borno

A mother and her young daughter drowned while returning home from the farm in Borno.

Police recovered their bodies and authorities are investigating what happened to the victims further there.

A sad incident occurred in Hawul Local Government Area of Borno State where a woman and her young daughter lost their lives while going back home from the farm.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama explained that the victims, Habiba Abubakar who was 35 years old, and her 9 year old daughter, Adama Abubakar, were from Ghung village. They drowned on October 26, 2025 around 1:15 in the afternoon while trying to cross a river.

Police officers, assisted by local divers, later retrieved their bodies from the river. No visible injuries were found on them.

For official record, photographs were taken before the bodies were moved to the General Hospital in Garkida, Gombi Area of Adamawa State. A doctor at the hospital confirmed that they were already dead on arrival.

The bodies have been given to their family for burial based on Islamic customs.

Sources confirmed that the State Criminal Investigation Department in Maiduguri has begun looking further into what happened.
