Bago Sets October 30, 31 as Public Holidays for Niger LG Elections
Niger State has declared two days as public holidays to prepare for local government elections.
Residents are urged to use the work-free days to get ready for Saturday’s voting.
Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has approved a two-day holiday for workers and residents as part of preparations for the upcoming local government elections. The state government said Thursday, October 30 and Friday, October 31, 2025, will be work-free days to enable citizens take part in the polls scheduled for Saturday, November 1.

The Secretary to the State Government, Abubakar Usman, issued a statement explaining that the move will ensure voters have enough time to locate their polling units and exercise their rights. He added that the days are set aside to boost participation across communities in the state.
During the period, markets, banks, and government offices will remain closed. The government also announced that movement will be restricted, except for those providing essential services.
Residents were encouraged to come out in large numbers and vote for candidates who can improve development at the local level. Governor Bago called on security agencies to maintain peace throughout the process, ensuring a safe environment before, during, and after voting.
