Anambra Council Chairman Stops APC Candidate’s Rally Over Rule Violation

Orumba South Chairman Shedrack Azubuike stopped APC candidate Nicholas Ukachukwu’s rally for breaching school-hour campaign rules.

The action enforced Anambra’s directive banning political gatherings in schools during learning sessions.

The Chairman of Orumba South Local Government Area in Anambra State, Hon. Shedrack Azubuike, on Wednesday stopped the campaign rally of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, for violating state regulations governing political gatherings.

Reports indicated that members of Ukachukwu’s campaign team had begun setting up canopies and other materials at St. Augustine Primary School in Umunze while pupils were still in class. The chairman, who was alerted about the development, arrived at the scene and immediately ordered that the rally be stopped.

According to sources, Hon. Azubuike directed the organizers to dismantle all canopies and vacate the premises until they could provide an official clearance letter from the appropriate authorities. He explained that the campaign breached an existing state policy that bars the use of schools for political, social, or religious events during school hours.

When contacted, the chairman confirmed that the enforcement followed a circular issued by the Anambra State Ministry of Education on August 14, 2025. The circular, titled “Restriction on Political, Religious, and Social Gatherings in Schools During School Hours,” prohibits any activity that could disrupt academic learning within public or private school environments.

He said the restriction was meant to protect the learning atmosphere and ensure students’ safety during school sessions. “Noise and disruption from such gatherings interfere with teaching and learning,” he noted, emphasizing that the regulation applies to all groups and is not politically motivated.

Azubuike further warned that school heads or proprietors who allow unauthorized use of school facilities during school hours would face administrative or legal consequences. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to maintaining order, public safety, and adherence to local government regulations in Orumba South, stressing that political parties must respect established rules to ensure peaceful and responsible campaign activities across the area.
