FG Releases N2.3bn to Universities to Settle Arrears After ASUU Ends Warning Strike
The Federal Government has disbursed N2.31 billion to universities to clear arrears owed to staff.
Education Minister Tunji Alausa said the payment reaffirms Tinubu’s commitment to staff welfare and reforms.
The Federal Government has released N2.31 billion to federal universities to settle outstanding arrears owed to academic and non-academic staff.

According to a statement by Kamorudeen Yusuf, Personal Assistant on Special Duties to the President, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, confirmed that the payment was processed through the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation. He noted that the universities have begun receiving their allocations.
Alausa explained that President Bola Tinubu’s administration remains committed to transparent and lasting reforms that ensure staff welfare and financial stability across institutions. He added that the government is also concluding plans to release pending third-party deductions and pension remittances to the Nigerian University Pension Management.
He further stated that the Earned Academic Allowances (EAA) will be fully integrated into university salary structures by 2026 to guarantee regular and predictable payments. The funding for the Needs Assessment of Nigerian Universities project, he said, has also been maintained to support development in the sector.
The minister assured that all discussions with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and other unions are being held in good faith. He stressed that all agreements will align with budget realities to prevent future disruptions.
The development follows ASUU’s decision to suspend its two-week warning strike after fresh negotiations with the Federal Government.
