Burna Boy Reveals Why He Chooses Nigeria Over Life in America
Burna Boy has said he feels freer living in Nigeria than in the United States.
He explained that true freedom, for him, exists only at home despite America’s wealth and luxury.
Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Burna Boy has revealed the reason he chooses to live in Nigeria instead of the United States, even with his worldwide fame and recognition.

Speaking during his first Twitch session with streamer PlaqueBoyMax, Burna Boy shared that genuine freedom, for him, can only be found in Nigeria. He explained that although the United States offers success, luxury, and recognition, it lacks the sense of liberty and authenticity he feels in his home country.
“The real meaning of freedom exists in my country. I can’t ever be completely free here. Guys end up in jail here in America,” Burna Boy said, suggesting that life in the U.S. can be restrictive, even for successful black men.
He explained that Nigeria gives him the space to live without fear or constant scrutiny, allowing him to express himself more naturally. Despite Nigeria’s challenges, Burna Boy emphasized that he feels more connected, grounded, and free at home.
