The Bomba Police Department confirmed the arrest on Thursday, October 30, 2025, following a high-speed chase in Umm al-Razm, a town located in eastern Libya.

According to Migrant Rescue Watch, an organization that monitors migrant movements and security operations in North Africa, the arrest occurred after officers intercepted the suspect’s vehicle while it was en route to a suspected smuggling route.

The driver and the three Nigerian women were immediately taken into custody and later transferred to the appropriate authorities for questioning. Law enforcement officials have since referred the case to a public prosecutor for further legal action.

Reports suggest that the incident is part of a broader effort by Libyan authorities to curb human trafficking and illegal migration through the country’s eastern borders. Libya remains a key transit point for migrants from sub-Saharan Africa seeking to cross the Mediterranean Sea into Europe, often under dangerous conditions.

Human rights groups have repeatedly raised concerns about the treatment of migrants in Libya, calling for better monitoring of detention practices and stronger international support for safe migration policies.

The identities of the arrested individuals have not been disclosed, and investigations are ongoing to determine whether the suspect is part of a larger smuggling network operating in the region.
