Nwifuru Approves Scholarships for 140 Students at Ebonyi ICT University
Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru has approved full scholarships for 140 students of the State University of ICT.
The initiative aims to boost digital education and youth empowerment across the state.
Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has approved full scholarships for 140 newly admitted students of the Ebonyi State University of ICT, located at Oferekpe Agbaja in Izzi Local Government Area.

The decision was among the key outcomes of the State Executive Council meeting held on Wednesday. Addressing journalists on Thursday, the Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Ikeuwa Omebeh, said the approval reflects the governor’s dedication to promoting education and digital innovation across the state.
Omebeh explained that the beneficiaries were selected from all 13 local government areas, including the host community, to ensure inclusiveness and fairness. He added that the initiative is part of the administration’s broader plan to develop a technologically skilled workforce capable of driving Ebonyi’s growth in the digital economy.
“The council reviewed the level of compliance from each benefiting local government area and directed the Ministry of Tertiary Education to take immediate steps to ensure that all councils are fully represented within the set timeframe,” Omebeh said.
He noted that the scholarship is part of Governor Nwifuru’s People’s Charter of Needs Agenda, which places strong emphasis on education, youth empowerment, and innovation. The agenda, according to him, is designed to create sustainable opportunities for Ebonyi’s young population and strengthen the state’s human capital base.
Omebeh further highlighted that the newly established ICT university aims to train students in key technological fields such as software engineering, data science, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity. He said these disciplines are crucial to Nigeria’s ongoing digital transformation and will help prepare Ebonyi’s youths for future global opportunities.
“The scholarship will not only reduce the financial burden on parents but will also equip our young people with the skills and confidence to compete in the global tech space,” he added.
The council also discussed other educational initiatives, including the remodeling of the State Library Complex. The architectural design for the project was presented, and the council directed that a Bill of Engineering Measurement and Evaluation (BEME) be submitted at its next meeting for final approval.
