Soludo Transforms Anambra Healthcare with New Hospitals, Free Medical Services
Dr Afam Obidike says Governor Soludo’s administration has built five new general hospitals and renovated over 130 facilities.
He described the progress as a major healthcare transformation.
The Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr Afam Obidike, says Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration has transformed the state’s healthcare system through the construction of five new general hospitals and the rehabilitation of more than 130 others, including primary healthcare centres, within three years.

Speaking during a media tour of health projects at the newly built Solution Trauma Centre, Awka, on Thursday, Obidike said the exercise was organized to inform residents about the government’s achievements and counter false claims aimed at undermining the administration’s efforts.
He listed the newly constructed hospitals as Okpoko General Hospital in Ogbaru, Solution Specialist Hospital in Fegge, Onitsha South, Solution Rehabilitation Centre in Nibo, Awka South, Ekwulobia General Hospital in Aguata, and Solution General Hospital in Anaku, Ayamelum.
According to him, the government also rehabilitated several health facilities, including Umueri General Hospital in Anambra East, Enugwu-Ukwu General Hospital in Njikoka, and the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku-Awka. The projects, he said, were aimed at bringing affordable and quality medical services closer to residents.
Obidike said the new and renovated hospitals were equipped with solar-powered electricity and provided free antenatal care, childbirth, and surgical procedures. He noted that the initiative was designed to improve access to healthcare for all residents, regardless of financial status.
“The Soludo administration is building a strong and functional healthcare system for the future of Anambra State. The governor’s vision is to make the state the safest, healthiest, greenest, cleanest, digitalized, smart, liveable, and prosperous in Nigeria,” he said.
The commissioner explained that the tour was part of the government’s effort to promote transparency and allow citizens to see how public funds were being used.
He disclosed that over 130 hospitals had been renovated, while five new ones were completed with steady water supply, solar lighting, and 30kV power generators. He added that the Solution Trauma Centre, Awka, and the Solution Specialist Hospital, Fegge, Onitsha, were nearing completion and would soon be inaugurated.
Obidike said the state had adopted telemedicine as part of its move toward a digitalized healthcare system. He added that 40 ambulance stations had been established across major hospitals, and about 1,500 health workers had been recruited so far.
He further stated that the administration’s long-term goal was to make Anambra a top medical destination comparable to India within five years.
The commissioner also mentioned the revival of the Nibo Rehabilitation Centre, which had been abandoned for years but now features modern equipment, a skills acquisition center, and recreational facilities. He said the Anambra Eye Care Centre, Nise, was also upgraded to international standards.
Meanwhile, the President-General of Anaku community, Paul Nwauba, praised Governor Soludo for constructing the Anaku General Hospital, describing it as fully operational and saving lives. He apologized for false claims suggesting the hospital was inactive, promising that the community would investigate the source of the misinformation.
During the media tour, several free childbirths and surgeries were carried out under the state’s ongoing free antenatal and maternity care program.
