Tinubu to Service Chiefs: Nigerians Expect Results, Not Excuses
President Bola Tinubu has charged newly appointed service chiefs to intensify efforts against terrorism, banditry, and crime.
He said Nigerians expect decisive results, not excuses, in restoring lasting security.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed Nigeria’s newly appointed service chiefs to intensify the fight against terrorism, banditry, and other criminal threats, insisting that Nigerians demand action, not excuses.

Speaking at the Presidential Villa after decorating the service chiefs with their new ranks on Thursday, Tinubu said the nation can no longer afford to allow insecurity to persist.
“We cannot allow the crisis that began in 2009 to continue,” the President stated. “Nigerians expect results, not excuses. Be innovative, pre-emptive, and courageous. Let’s stay ahead of those who threaten our peace and use technology where necessary.”
The event at the Council Chambers was attended by top government officials, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, governors, ministers, and security advisers.
Tinubu warned the military against allowing newly formed armed groups to grow in parts of the North-Central, North-West, and South, urging swift and decisive action.
“Security threats are evolving. We must not allow these new threats to fester. Be decisive and proactive. Let us smash the new snakes right at the head,” he said.
The President reaffirmed his administration’s support for the armed forces, stressing that the safety and stability of Nigerians are vital to national progress.
He commended the courage of military personnel and their families, acknowledging their sacrifices and noting that peace has been restored to many areas once under siege.
“There were times when terrorists and marauders held large portions of our land; this is no longer the case,” Tinubu added.
He urged the service chiefs to promote unity, coordination, and cooperation with other security agencies to eliminate insecurity nationwide.
In his response, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, thanked the President for the confidence reposed in them and promised to strengthen national security.
“Without the support of Nigerians, we can hardly achieve much,” he said. “We ask for collective support to make Nigeria a safer place.”
Those decorated include General Olufemi Oluyede (Chief of Defence Staff), Lieutenant General Emmanuel Parker Undiandeye (Chief of Defence Intelligence), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu (Chief of Army Staff), Vice Admiral Idi Abbas (Chief of Naval Staff), and Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke (Chief of Air Staff).
The event ended on a lighter note when the military chiefs, after saluting President Tinubu, turned to salute their wives, drawing applause from the audience.
