EFCC Suspends Officers Over Rapper Oladips’ ₦10m Extortion Allegation
The EFCC has suspended some of its operatives over claims by rapper Oladips that they extorted ₦10 million from him.
The agency confirmed an internal probe and vowed to punish any officer found guilty.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has suspended several of its operatives following allegations by Nigerian rapper Oladipupo Oladimeji, popularly known as Oladips, that they extorted ₦10 million from him during his detention in 2024.

The musician, while speaking on the Trending podcast, recalled that he was arrested during a late-night raid at his Lagos home in November 2024. He claimed he was kept in custody for five days and eventually released only after paying ₦10 million, despite no incriminating evidence being found against him.
“They collected ₦10 million from me before releasing me,” Oladips said during the interview. “They didn’t find anything on me, so why did they take the money? It was unnecessary stress and suffering.”
In a statement shared on its official X page on Saturday, the EFCC confirmed that it had opened an internal investigation into the incident, describing the matter as “very serious.”
According to the commission, the officers involved in handling Oladips’ case have been summoned to its headquarters in Abuja and suspended from operational duties until the probe is completed.
“The picture painted by the artist does not represent the true character of the EFCC,” the agency stated. “We have commenced investigations, and the concerned officers have been relieved of their duties pending the outcome.”
The EFCC further stressed its commitment to maintaining integrity and accountability within the agency. It assured Nigerians that any staff member found guilty of misconduct would face disciplinary action, while anyone proven to have made false allegations against the agency would also be sanctioned.
The anti-graft body urged the public to remain calm as the investigation continues, reiterating its dedication to fairness, transparency, and the ongoing fight against corruption in Nigeria.
