Police K!ll Two Kidnappers, Rescue Victim Held for N30 Million Ransom in Ogun
Ogun police have k!lled two suspected kidnappers during a rescue operation that freed a man abducted for a N30 million ransom.
The victim, Alhaji Hassan Atoyebi, was rescued unharmed.
Two suspected kidnappers have been k!lled during a sting operation by operatives of the Ogun State Police Command, leading to the rescue of a victim abducted for a N30 million ransom.
The operation, conducted in the Onipanu area of the state, was executed by the command’s tactical team in collaboration with other security agencies, according to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Omolola Odutola.
Odutola explained that the operation followed the abduction of a man identified as Alhaji Hassan Atoyebi, who was kidnapped from his home on October 27, 2025, at about 8:14 p.m. She said the abductors had invaded his residence, switched off the generator to create the impression of a power failure, and then attacked when he came out to check.
“Unaware of the danger, the victim and another resident came out to inspect what they thought was a fault but were ambushed by the assailants, who subsequently abducted Alhaji Atoyebi,” the statement said.
The kidnappers also carted away several valuables, including a PoS machine, N900,000 in cash, three phones, a power bank, and vehicle keys belonging to two cars in the compound. They later contacted the victim’s family, demanding N30 million for his release.
Acting on intelligence, a joint security team traced the suspects to their hideout along a creek, where a fierce gun duel broke out. Two of the kidnappers were shot dead, while others escaped with bullet wounds.
“The victim was rescued unhurt and has since been reunited with his family. His phones and vehicle keys were recovered at the scene,” Odutola confirmed.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Abiodun Alamutu Ogunlowo, commended the officers for their bravery and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring Ogun State remains hostile to criminal elements.
This operation follows a similar rescue in July, when police neutralized two suspected kidnappers in Owode-Egba and freed three abducted residents in the Ajebo community.
