Trump Warns of Possible U.S. Military Action in Nigeria Over Reported Killings of Christians

President Donald Trump has warned that the U.S. may take military action in Nigeria over attacks on Christians.

He said Washington will not tolerate further killings and has ordered defence officials to prepare.

United States President Donald Trump has directed the U.S. Defence Department to prepare for potential military action in Nigeria, warning that America will not stand by if the Nigerian government continues to “allow the killing of Christians.”

Trump made the statement on Saturday through his Truth Social account, following his earlier decision to classify Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” due to alleged large-scale attacks on Christian communities. The designation has stirred global reactions and drawn sharp criticism from Nigerian authorities.

In the post, Trump said the U.S. could halt all aid and assistance to Nigeria while considering direct military intervention. He said the move would target groups described as “Islamic terrorists” responsible for violence across parts of the country.

“If the Nigerian Government continues to allow the killing of Christians, the U.S.A. will immediately stop all aid and may take action to eliminate the terrorists committing these atrocities,” Trump stated. “Our Department of War is already preparing for possible action.”

The U.S. president added that any response would be swift and decisive, emphasizing his administration’s stance on defending persecuted Christian populations worldwide.

Trump’s remarks followed days of heightened discussion in both Washington and Abuja after the designation announcement. The Nigerian government, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has dismissed the accusation, insisting that Nigeria upholds religious freedom and that ongoing security challenges are being addressed through national reforms and joint military operations.
