Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri has officially joined the All Progressives Congress, ending months of speculation about his political future. The formal declaration ceremony, held in Yenagoa, drew thousands of enthusiastic supporters from the state’s eight local government areas. Many attendees, dressed in white T-shirts, flooded the streets with songs, drumming, and chants in support of the governor’s move.

Diri, who recently resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party, said his decision to join the ruling party was guided by a desire to align with national development efforts. The event also attracted several prominent political figures, including Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, former Edo Governor Adams Oshiomhole, and Minister of Niger Delta Development Abubakar Momoh.
The atmosphere in Yenagoa was festive as party members described Diri’s defection as a significant boost to the APC’s strength in the South-South region.
