Kano Government Approves ₦19 Billion for Major Development Projects

The Kano government has approved over ₦19 billion for major development projects across the state.

Funds will support education, healthcare, water, infrastructure, and renewable energy to boost residents’ welfare.

The Kano State Executive Council, led by Governor Abba Yusuf, has approved more than ₦19 billion for the execution of key development projects across the state.

The state Commissioner for Information and Internal Strategy, Ibrahim Waiya, made this known while briefing journalists on Sunday in Kano. He said the projects cut across vital sectors including education, healthcare, water resources, infrastructure, power, and renewable energy.

According to Waiya, about ₦5 billion was allocated to the education sector for the settlement of outstanding liabilities and renovation of schools. The council also approved ₦274 million for the renovation and upgrade of health facilities to improve service delivery across the state.

In addition, ₦3.4 billion was earmarked for water resources projects aimed at enhancing access to clean and safe water for residents.

Waiya explained that the sum of ₦10 billion was approved for works and infrastructure projects, which include the construction of new roads, flood control measures, and rehabilitation of existing infrastructure.

He further revealed that the council reached several policy decisions, including the construction of low-cost housing units, acquisition of majority shares in the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO), and the adoption of a new state electricity policy designed to expand access to energy.

Waiya added that the state government took pride in the recent national and international awards presented to Governor Abba Yusuf in recognition of his leadership and service to humanity.

He assured that the approved funds would be utilized effectively to accelerate development and improve the living conditions of Kano residents.
