Tinubu Saw U.S. Pressure Coming, Says Onanuga Amid Christian Persecution Claims
Bayo Onanuga says President Tinubu foresaw U.S. moves over alleged Christian persecution in Nigeria.
He noted that Tinubu had already directed service chiefs to deliver decisive security results nationwide.
Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has said the Nigerian leader was “well ahead of the orchestrated game unfolding in America” amid renewed U.S. pressure over alleged persecution of Christians in Nigeria.

His comment followed recent remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump, who redesignated Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern and warned that the United States could cut off aid and take military action if the killings of Christians continue.
Trump had said America “may very well go into that now disgraced country guns-a-blazing to completely wipe out the Islamic terrorists killing Christians.”
Reacting in a post on his X handle on Sunday, November 2, Onanuga said President Tinubu had already anticipated the international spotlight on Nigeria’s security issues. He explained that the President had earlier issued firm directives to the nation’s new service chiefs to deliver results without excuses.
“President Bola Tinubu was well ahead of the orchestrated game unfolding in America as he told the new service chiefs on Thursday what Nigerians expect of them. No more excuses, he said. Nigerians want results,” Onanuga stated.
He also shared part of the President’s message to military leaders, in which Tinubu urged them to take decisive action against emerging security threats across the country. “Security threats are constantly evolving, constantly mutating. Of grave concern to our administration is the recent emergence of new armed groups in the North-Central, North-West, and parts of the South. We must not allow these new threats to fester. We must be decisive and proactive. Let us smash the new snakes right in the head,” Tinubu said.
The President also emphasized the need for greater use of technology and innovation in fighting insurgency, assuring full government support for the armed forces.
