Residents said the gunmen stormed the community late Sunday night, shooting repeatedly to instill fear and force their way into the town. Their plan was, however, thwarted by the swift response of troops from Operation FANSAN YANMA, who were deployed to the scene immediately after receiving distress calls.

According to a local source, the soldiers engaged the bandits in a fierce gun battle that lasted several minutes. The attackers, realizing they were outgunned, eventually retreated into the nearby forest with several of them reportedly sustaining gunshot wounds. The quick and coordinated intervention of the security team was said to have prevented what could have been a deadly assault on the community.

“Troops responded without delay and confronted the bandits head-on. Their superior firepower forced the attackers to flee into the forest,” one of the residents said.

The source further disclosed that four civilians sustained minor injuries from stray bullets during the exchange of gunfire. They were immediately rushed to a nearby healthcare facility for treatment. There were, however, no casualties among the soldiers or other security personnel involved in the operation.

Following the failed attack, joint security teams have intensified patrols and launched a search operation across the surrounding forests to locate the fleeing assailants. Neighboring military and police divisions have also been placed on alert to block possible escape routes.

Authorities have urged residents to remain calm but vigilant, assuring that measures are in place to ensure the continued safety of communities within Isa and other affected parts of Sokoto State.

Security sources added that the operation remains ongoing, with efforts focused on dismantling bandit hideouts and restoring lasting peace to the area.
