Troops of the Nigerian Army have successfully rescued two abducted individuals and recovered N3.8 million allegedly paid as ransom during a military operation in Kogi State.

The operation, conducted by soldiers from the 12 Brigade at the Forward Operating Base in Oguma, was based on credible intelligence about kidnapping activities along the Itobe–Adumu–Ejule route. The Army said the rescue mission took place on November 2, 2025, following reports that relatives of kidnapped victims were heading to deliver ransom to their captors.

According to the Army, troops swiftly mobilized to Achigili Forest, where they encountered the kidnappers. The armed bandits opened fire on the soldiers, prompting a fierce exchange. The statement noted that the troops overpowered the criminals with superior firepower, forcing them to flee the scene and abandon their captives along with the ransom cash.

During the operation, two victims were rescued unharmed, while the soldiers also recovered N3.8 million that had been taken for ransom payment. The Army said the suspects escaped into the forest with gunshot wounds, and efforts were ongoing to track them down.

The rescued victims were later debriefed to support further investigation, and the recovered money was handed back to them. They have been placed under protection and are expected to be transferred to relevant authorities for additional procedures.

Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, confirmed the operation in a statement posted on the Army’s official Facebook page. He reaffirmed the military’s dedication to safeguarding citizens and urged residents to continue providing credible information that can help in combating crime and insecurity in the state.

He also assured that security forces remain on high alert across Kogi and other regions to ensure the safety of all Nigerians.
