Fayose Says Suspended PDP Chairman Damagum Will End Up Like Ayu
Ayodele Fayose says suspended PDP Chairman Umar Damagum will likely face the same fate as Iyorchia Ayu.
He blamed manipulation and poor leadership for the party’s recurring crises.
Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has predicted that the suspended Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Damagum, will share the same political fate as the party’s former National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, who was removed in 2024 amid a protracted leadership crisis.

Speaking during a press briefing in Ado Ekiti, the state capital, Fayose said the PDP had once again arrived at a familiar point of internal conflict driven by manipulation and disregard for due process. He noted that such recurring crises had eroded the party’s unity and weakened its standing as the main opposition in the country.
Fayose described Damagum as a product of political compromise, whose time in office deepened confusion within the party instead of restoring stability. According to him, the leadership’s inability to adhere to party principles and its preference for self-interest over collective progress had continued to damage the PDP’s image before Nigerians.
He said the ongoing crisis reflects the consequences of sidelining loyal members while rewarding those who lack commitment to the party’s ideals. Fayose noted that Damagum’s suspension was an inevitable outcome of poor leadership choices and internal betrayal, stressing that the PDP must stop recycling the same mistakes that led to Ayu’s downfall.
“The same pattern that brought down Iyorchia Ayu is playing out again. Once a leader loses touch with the people and relies on manipulation, the end is predictable,” Fayose stated.
The former governor urged party members to return to the path of fairness, truth, and transparency if the PDP hopes to regain public trust. He added that the opposition must reorganize itself with sincerity and discipline to provide Nigerians with a credible alternative in future elections.
