The Ghana Navy has arrested ten Nigerians who allegedly stowed away on a Panamanian ship bound for Tema.

Officials said the suspects secretly boarded the vessel at Lagos Port before its departure.

The Ghana Navy has apprehended ten Nigerian nationals who were found aboard a Panamanian-flagged merchant vessel, MV Grand Venus, at the Tema Port.

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) confirmed the development in a statement released on Monday, November 3, 2025. According to the military, the arrest was made on Friday, October 31, after a distress call was received from the vessel, located about eight nautical miles southeast of Tema.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had secretly boarded the ship while it was docked at the Lagos Port in Nigeria before it departed for Ghana.

“The Ghana Navy on Friday, 31 October 2025, arrested ten stowaways onboard the Panamanian-flagged merchant vessel Grand Venus in Tema following a distress call,” the GAF statement said.

After the interception, naval officers escorted the vessel to the main harbour in Tema, where the suspects were handed over to relevant authorities, including the Port Control, Ghana Immigration Service, and the Marine Police for further investigation.

The Ghana Armed Forces assured the public that the situation was under control and that more information would be provided as investigations continue.

“The Ghana Navy wishes to assure the general public that additional details will be communicated as the investigation progresses,” the statement added.
