Singer Waje has debunked rumors that she once dated rapper M.I Abaga, calling it pure speculation.
She said their 2010 hit “One Naira” only reflected musical chemistry, not a real relationship.
Nigerian singer Aituaje Iruobe, popularly known as Waje, has finally addressed long-running rumors suggesting she once dated rapper M.I Abaga.
Speaking on The Honest Bunch podcast, the 45-year-old vocalist dismissed the speculation, explaining that their close musical chemistry was purely professional.
Waje revealed that the romance-themed rollout of their 2010 hit One Naira led many fans to assume there was more between them. “Because of the rollout and romantic theme of my collaborative song with M.I, One Naira, a lot of people speculated that we were dating. But we never dated. We were just friends who saw how great a love story in a song could be, so we created characters that would help drive the song,” she clarified.
She also disclosed that the voice-over in the song’s intro wasn’t hers but that of M.I’s then-girlfriend.
The singer further noted that she is currently single and not in a rush to settle down, adding that she would not entertain any man who lacks ambition. “I’m no longer in my 20s. I don’t have the energy to build a man from scratch,” she said.
