Waje Recounts Teenage Pregnancy And How Her Baby’s Father Denied Responsibility
Waje has shared how she got pregnant at 16 and faced rejection from her baby’s father.
She revealed that her mother supported her fully, shaping her strength and purpose in motherhood.
Singer Waje has opened up about getting pregnant as a teenager and the struggles she faced as a young mother.

Speaking on The Honest Bunch podcast, Waje revealed that she became pregnant at 16 and managed to keep it secret from her mother for about five months. When her mother eventually found out, she approached the family of the man responsible, but the conversation didn’t go as planned.
According to her, the young man denied the pregnancy, forcing her mother to take full responsibility for her and the unborn child.
“In Igbo land, when a child is born out of wedlock, the family automatically adopts the child,” Waje said. “So my mom just told him, ‘Okay, since it’s not you, the child is mine now.’”
The singer shared that years later, the man tried to reconnect with their daughter, who was already grown. Though she was hesitant, Waje eventually agreed but insisted that he take legal steps to support his child.
She said she encouraged him to use his Canadian citizenship to secure better opportunities for their daughter’s education. However, Waje noted that he kept delaying the required DNA test, and years passed without any progress.
By the time her daughter turned 18, she said it was too late for him to begin the process.
The singer said her greatest priority has always been her daughter’s well-being, education, and future, adding that motherhood taught her strength and purpose at a young age.
