Anambra Nurses Deny Claims of Contributing Money to Thank Governor Soludo
Anambra nurses have dismissed claims that they were told to contribute money to thank Governor Soludo.
The association said the false report misrepresented their ongoing project to furnish the Nurses House in Awka.
The Anambra State chapter of the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) has strongly denied reports alleging that nurses in the state are contributing money to thank Governor Chukwuma Soludo for approving the implementation of the 2024 Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS).

The State Chairman of NANNM, Mrs. Edith Onwuka, made this clarification during an interview with news men in Awka. She described the rumor making rounds on social media as baseless, misleading, and the handiwork of those trying to tarnish the reputation of the nursing profession in the state.
Mrs. Onwuka stated that at no time did the association ask nurses to make financial contributions to appreciate the governor for implementing the new salary structure. According to her, the only ongoing contributions among members are for the furnishing of the newly built Nurses House in Awka a decision that was collectively agreed upon and properly documented during an earlier meeting of the association.
She noted that some individuals may have deliberately twisted this information to create confusion and cast the association in a bad light. Onwuka urged members of the public, especially nurses across the state, to disregard the false story and focus on their professional responsibilities.
Also speaking, the Deputy General Secretary of NANNM, Dr. Ikedi Onah, reaffirmed that Governor Soludo never requested any financial contribution from nurses before implementing CONHESS. He commended the governor for his continued support toward improving the welfare of health workers in the state and called on nurses to always verify information from credible sources before sharing it online.
One of the nurses, Juliet Amarachi-Ezeh, expressed satisfaction that the truth had been made clear, noting that the clarification had restored confidence among members. She appreciated Governor Soludo for prioritizing the welfare of nurses and for his commitment to improving the state’s healthcare system.
