Court Grants Pretty Mike ₦50 Million Bail Over Alleged Drug Offences

A Lagos court has granted ₦50 million bail to nightclub owner Pretty Mike over alleged drug offences.

He and his club supervisor denied the NDLEA’s charges and will face trial in January.

Popular Lagos entertainer and nightclub owner, Mike Nwalie, better known as Pretty Mike, has been granted bail in the sum of N50 million after being arraigned before the Federal High Court in Lagos for alleged involvement in drug-related offences.

Nwalie, the owner of Proxy Lagos Night Club, was arraigned alongside the club’s supervisor, 32-year-old Joachim Hillary, by the Federal Government through the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). The duo appeared before Justice Ambrose Lewis-Allagoa on a three-count charge of conspiracy, unlawful possession, and permitting the use of the club for illegal drug activities.

According to the NDLEA’s prosecutor, Buhari Abdullahi, the offences were said to have occurred on October 26, 2025, at the club located on Akin Adesola Street, Victoria Island. He told the court that the defendants conspired to hold a drug party at the nightclub, during which NDLEA operatives allegedly recovered 200 grams of cannabis and 177 cylinders of nitrous oxide (laughing gas) weighing about 364 kilograms in total.

The agency also accused Hillary of possessing 200 grams of cannabis without authorization, while Pretty Mike was accused of allowing the use of his club for drug-related activities. The offences, according to the NDLEA, violate Sections 14(b) and 20(1)(c) of the NDLEA Act and are punishable under Sections 20(2)(b) and 12 of the same law.

Both defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges. Defence counsel, Dr. B.S. Awosika (SAN), applied for bail, arguing that the accused had no criminal history and would appear for trial. The prosecutor opposed the application, insisting that the defendants failed to present sufficient reasons for bail and asked for a speedy trial instead.

In his ruling, Justice Lewis-Allagoa held that the defendants remained innocent until proven guilty and that the prosecution had not provided grounds to deny bail. He granted each defendant N50 million bail with two sureties in the same amount and ordered the sureties to swear an affidavit of means.

The judge also directed that the defendants be released to their lawyer pending the fulfillment of bail conditions. The case was adjourned until January 14, 2026, for trial.
