INEC Completes Distribution of Election Materials Ahead of Anambra Governorship Poll
INEC has completed distributing sensitive materials across Anambra ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
The REC assured voters of a free, fair, and credible poll under tight security arrangements.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has concluded the distribution of all sensitive election materials to the 21 local government areas of Anambra State ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.

The distribution exercise, which took place on Thursday at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) branch in Awka, included ballot papers, result sheets (Forms EC8A and EC8B), and Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) devices. Representatives of political parties, election observers, security agencies, and journalists were present to monitor the process.
Speaking during the event, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr. Queen Elizabeth Agwu, reiterated INEC’s readiness to conduct a free, fair, credible, and inclusive election across the state.
“By tomorrow afternoon, these materials will be moved to the Registration Area Centres, where hands-on training will be conducted before deployment to polling units on Saturday morning,” she explained.
Dr. Agwu commended the media for its role in promoting electoral transparency and urged residents to participate actively in the polls. She likened the commission’s preparation to a well-prepared meal, saying, “Our preparations are like a delicious meal waiting to be eaten. If people fail to show up, it may go sour.”
Anambra State has 5,718 polling units where voters will cast their ballots and results will be collated.
On security, the Commissioner of Police in charge of election duties, CP Abayomi Shogunle, assured voters of adequate protection throughout the process. He confirmed that over 55,000 security personnel have been deployed across the state, with at least three officers assigned to each polling unit.
INEC officials also disclosed that Electoral Officers have successfully received materials for their respective local governments, marking the final stage of logistics before the much-anticipated election on Saturday.
The commission emphasized its commitment to ensuring transparency, accountability, and public confidence in the electoral process.
