Tinubu Says Nigeria Will Not Bow to Foreign Pressure Amid U.S. Military Threat

President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed that Nigeria will not yield to foreign pressure amid global scrutiny.

He assured citizens that his government remains determined to end terrorism and uphold national security.

President Bola Tinubu has said that Nigeria will not be intimidated by external pressure following global concerns about alleged persecution of Christians in the country.

The President made this known in a statement shared on his official X account on Friday, a few days after United States President Donald Trump warned that Washington could take military action against Nigeria over reported attacks on Christians.

Tinubu stated that Nigeria will continue to engage with the international community with calmness, confidence, and a clear sense of purpose. He also assured citizens that his administration is fully committed to defeating terrorism, which he described as a challenge the country has been confronting for nearly twenty years.

“We are indeed faced with terrorism, a challenge Nigeria has dealt with for almost two decades, and we will not back down. We will decisively defeat terrorism and claim victory in this battle,” Tinubu said.

He stressed that the nation’s security is not open to negotiation and vowed that his government would not compromise in its efforts to protect the lives and property of all Nigerians. The President added that the government’s approach will remain guided by the rule of law, courage, and determination.

Tinubu also called on Nigeria’s international partners to maintain their support for the country’s security initiatives, saying that global collaboration is vital to sustaining the progress achieved so far in restoring peace and stability.

His remarks followed President Trump’s recent statement that he had directed the U.S. Defense Department to prepare for possible military intervention in Nigeria if the alleged killings of Christians persist. Trump had previously listed Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern over claims of persecution against Christian communities.
