Governor Uba Sani Cautions Politicians Against Politicising Security Issues

Kaduna Governor Uba Sani has urged politicians to avoid actions that threaten Nigeria’s unity.

He said criticism must not cross the line into divisive or anti-democratic behavior.

Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has urged politicians to draw a clear line between criticizing government policies and actions that undermine Nigeria’s unity.

Speaking when senior officials of the State Security Service paid him a courtesy visit at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim House on Friday, Sani called on Nigerians to be patriotic and cautioned against using security matters as political tools.

He condemned some opposition figures who, in his words, damage the nation’s image in the media under the guise of political opposition, describing such behavior as “anti-democratic.”

The governor noted that public office holders come and go, but Nigeria remains. “You can criticize me as a governor, but when you act in ways that spread disunity or harm the peace of Kaduna State, you have become a merchant of conflict,” he said.

Recalling his years as a civil rights advocate, Sani referenced the late Chief Gani Fawehinmi, who often reminded activists to separate the country from its leaders in their struggles.

He also criticized members of the elite who, according to him, use religion and insecurity for political advantage while their families live comfortably abroad. “When trouble starts, those in GRAs with families overseas will leave, leaving the poor to suffer,” he warned.

Sani expressed concern over politicians who, from the safety of their homes, encourage ordinary citizens to protest while their own children live abroad. He described such actions as unpatriotic and harmful to national stability.

The governor further noted that religion should never be a basis for division in Kaduna, stressing that both Muslims and Christians must live and work together for peace.

“I don’t judge anyone by their religion. What matters to me is character,” he stated.

Sani commended the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, the heads of security agencies, and the Director-General of the State Security Service, Adeola Ajayi, for their continued commitment to tackling insecurity across the country.
