Police in Niger State have arrested a woman accused of traff!cking three abducted children.
The 40-year-old suspect was caught at Diko Junction while taking the kids to Abuja.
The Niger State Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old woman, identified as Victoria Ebunoha Chukwumezie, for allegedly traff!cking three children suspected to have been abducted.
Police spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, disclosed the arrest in a statement on Thursday, November 6, 2025. He said the suspect was intercepted by operatives attached to Gawu-Babangida Division at Diko Junction while travelling with the children.
According to the statement, the children, aged between two and three years, were taken from Lambata and were being transported to Abuja under the pretext of being taken “for care.” The victims were identified as Kazeem, aged three, and two-year-olds Ya’amadu and Idris.
“On November 5, 2025, at about 5:00 p.m., one Victoria Ebunoha Chukwumezie, aged 40, of Nyanya, Abuja, was sighted at Diko Junction with three children suspected of being abducted for human traff!cking. The police moved in immediately and arrested the suspect,” the statement said.
During interrogation, the woman reportedly confessed that she took the children from Lambata and was taking them to Abuja. However, she failed to provide a clear explanation of her relationship with the children or the consent of their parents.
SP Abiodun confirmed that the parents of the rescued children have been contacted and that the case is under thorough investigation.
He added that the suspect remains in custody while efforts continue to determine if she is part of a wider human traff!cking network operating within the region.
The Niger State Police Command urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities involving children to the nearest police station to help combat child traff!cking and abduction in the state.
