The community of Akyempim in the Central Region of Ghana is struggling to come to terms with a heartbreaking tragedy after a man allegedly set his own house on fire, killing his wife and six children while they were asleep. The incident has left residents in deep pain and confusion as they try to understand what led to the deadly act.

Reports from the area revealed that the victims included the man’s wife, five of their young children who were between one and fifteen years old, and the family’s eldest daughter. All of them were trapped inside the room when the fire started.

Officials of the Ghana National Fire Service said that their first findings suggested the man may have locked the door from outside before lighting the fire. According to the investigators, this action made it impossible for the family to escape once the flames spread through the building. Early statements from the fire service indicated that they believed the family was asleep at the time, which made the situation even more tragic because no one inside the house had the chance to call for help.

A disturbing video that circulated in the community showed residents trying to pull out what remained of the victims from the burnt building. The bodies were completely burnt, and many people at the scene could not hold back their tears. Neighbors and emergency workers worked together for hours as they tried to recover the remains. The sad atmosphere was felt across the community as people gathered in silence, shocked by the scale of the loss.

Later in the day, residents discovered the man in a bush close to the community. He was found hanging from a tree. This discovery confirmed the belief that he took his own life after the deadly incident. His death added another painful layer to an already tragic situation, leaving the entire community with questions that may never be answered.
