Unconfirmed reports have claimed that former Anambra State governor, Willie Obiano, has died in a London hospital. The story spread online on Friday, but his associates say there is no evidence to support it.
The claim surfaced after a report by Sahara Reporters suggested Obiano had passed away abroad. His personal publicist, Tony Nezianya, said he was not aware of such information and could not confirm anything.
Shortly after the rumour gained attention, Hon. Chief Nweke Christian Afamuefuna issued a statement describing it as fake and harmful. He said Obiano was alive and in good health and warned those spreading the claim to withdraw it. He urged the public to ignore the false report.
Obiano’s former Chief of Staff, Prof. Joe Asike, also dismissed the story. He said he recently had a phone conversation with Obiano that lasted about 30 minutes and insisted the former governor was fine.
The conflicting accounts have left many unsure of what to believe, as online claims continue to clash with strong denials from those close to him. Obiano, born on August 8, 1955, served as governor of Anambra State from 2014 to 2022 and is currently under investigation by the EFCC over an alleged N4 billion fraud.
