The Anambra State Chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has unveiled a new initiative known as Operation Youth Economy, a program designed to boost financial access, entrepreneurial support, and economic participation among young people across the state.

The project was launched on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at the State Youth House in Awka, with officials of the council, local government coordinators, state directors, and leaders of various youth organizations in attendance.

Speaking at the event, the State Chairman, Ambassador Surveyor Emeka Obi, explained that the initiative aims to close long-standing gaps affecting young entrepreneurs in Anambra.

He stated that despite the presence of numerous empowerment programs from both government and private organizations, many young people still struggle to access funds, markets, business networks, and technical guidance needed for their ventures to grow.

According to him, Operation Youth Economy was designed to bridge these gaps by directly linking young people to financial institutions, investors, and strategic opportunities. The program specifically targets two categories of beneficiaries.

The first group includes self-driven young entrepreneurs who have already taken steps to establish or grow their businesses but require additional support such as finance, partnerships, wider customer reach, and visibility. The second group includes those already trained under state-sponsored empowerment schemes who still need post-training support to integrate fully into the economic system.

The NYCN leadership also announced plans for a statewide sensitization tour across all local government areas. The tour will focus on educating young people about available grants, funding windows, partnerships, and business opportunities.

The council believes the outreach will ensure that even youths in remote and underserved communities can benefit from the initiative. NYCN Anambra noted that the overarching goal is to strengthen youth participation in the productive economy of the state. By improving access to finance, markets, mentorship, and technical knowledge, the program is expected to help young people achieve financial independence while contributing meaningfully to Anambra’s economic development.

The council reaffirmed its commitment to promoting a self-reliant and economically empowered youth population, stressing that building purposeful young people remains essential for building a prosperous society.
