In a statement on Monday, Abubakar said the incident is a painful reminder of the worsening security challenges facing the country. He also condemned the k!lling of Umar Moriki, an APC chieftain, along with the mass kidnappings in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State, where bandits took away entire families, including women and children.

He noted that similar tragedies in Plateau, Benue and other states show that the security situation has reached a critical stage. Abubakar added that reports of residents fleeing Shanono Local Government Area in Kano because of fear demonstrate what he described as an unacceptable level of insecurity.

He called on the Federal Government to immediately reform the security system, send more personnel to high risk areas and strengthen intelligence based operations.

He said Nigerians are entitled to safety, respect and peace and should not receive anything less.
