Autopsy Confirms Ondo SDP Candidate Akingboye Was Murdered
An autopsy has confirmed that former Ondo SDP candidate Bamidele Akingboye was deliberately killed.
Police have reopened arrests as toxicology results push the investigation into a more active stage.
An autopsy has confirmed that Mr. Bamidele Akingboye, a former governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party in Ondo State, did not die a natural death but was murdered.

Akingboye was found dead on September 3, 2025, in the backyard of his Lagos mansion. His family and aides had raised concerns over the unusual circumstances surrounding his death, prompting his first son, Samuel Akingboye, to notify the police and request a full investigation.
The Lagos State Police Command has now revealed that the autopsy conducted on September 11, 2025, along with other recent findings, has led to fresh arrests. According to the Commissioner of Police, CP Olorundare Jimoh, seven of the fourteen family members earlier questioned have been taken back into custody.
Jimoh confirmed to Channels Television that the case has moved into a more active stage following the toxicology results. He said, “With the toxicology findings concluded, we await advice from the DPP so prosecution can begin against anyone found culpable of murder.” He added that the police are expecting legal guidance from the Directorate of Public Prosecution to determine the next steps.
Investigators also examined suspicious financial activities linked to the late politician. One of the key issues was the transfer of N50 million from Akingboye’s bank account, which was allegedly shared by some members of his close family. Detectives believe this transaction may be connected to the motive behind the killing.
CP Jimoh restated that the police remain committed to uncovering the truth and ensuring that all individuals involved in the crime face justice. The investigation continues as the police await official directives for prosecution.
