The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced that it has no link to a viral video claiming that petrol can now be ordered and delivered to motorists through dispatch riders. The company told our correspondent on Sunday that it does not know where the video came from and has nothing to do with the service being promoted.

Dangote Refutes Viral Claim of Petrol Delivery by Bike

The video, which spread across social media on Sunday, showed a man trying to avoid long fuel queues by placing an order for petrol through a WhatsApp chat. A dispatch rider soon arrived with a small fuel dispenser fixed to his bike and appeared to fill the man’s tank. The clip was presented as an advert for a supposed service called FuelUp, which the promoters claimed was powered by Dangote Petroleum. While some viewers welcomed the idea, others raised concerns about the safety of such a method of distribution.

When contacted, Dangote officials dismissed the video completely. The Group Chief Communication Officer, Anthony Chiejina, described it as “fake” and said the refinery has no connection to the content. Another official noted that the refinery deals only with bulk buyers and has not signed any agreement with any company to deliver petrol through bikes.

The clarification comes at a time when the refinery has been expanding its operations. Recently, it imported a large number of Compressed Natural Gas powered trucks to strengthen its direct fuel distribution network. The use of these trucks began in September as part of a wider effort to improve delivery efficiency.

The refinery has also started work on increasing its production capacity from 650,000 barrels per day to 1.4 million barrels per day. Situated in the Lekki Free Trade Zone in Lagos State, it remains one of the biggest integrated refineries in the world.

In the last few months, Dangote has continued to upgrade its facilities by adopting cleaner energy sources, improving automation, and reinforcing logistics systems. These steps aim to support steady fuel supply, reduce environmental impact, and position the refinery to meet Nigeria’s rising demand for petrol. With the planned expansion, the company hopes to boost local supply and strengthen its role as a major force in Africa’s energy industry.
