Newskobo.com earlier reported that Navy officer Lt. Yerima was said to have escaped an alleged assass!nation attempt in Abuja.

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has dismissed claims that a naval officer, Lieutenant Ahmed Yerima, survived an assass!nation attempt in Abuja. According to the Command, the viral report was inaccurate and did not reflect what happened on the day of the incident.

In a statement issued by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, the Command said officers were carrying out a routine stop and search when they stopped a Toyota Camry with a covered number plate and dark tinted windows. The driver reportedly refused to identify himself at first, which prompted the officers to ask further questions.

The statement explained that the situation became clear after three naval personnel arrived at the scene and confirmed that the man in the vehicle was their colleague. Once his identity was verified, the police allowed him to continue his journey. The Command stressed that this was a standard security procedure and not an attack on anyone.

The police also warned members of the public against circulating unverified news that can cause confusion. Adeh noted that the attention of the Command was drawn to a social media post by an Instagram blogger, which claimed that Yerima had been targeted at NNPC Junction along the Kubwa Expressway. She described the post as false and said it misrepresented the routine operation carried out by officers.

According to the police, the stop took place on 16 November 2025 at about 6:15 p.m. The officers politely asked the driver to explain the concealed number plate and tinted windows, which is a normal request under security protocols.

Lieutenant Yerima has been in the public eye recently following a confrontation with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over a land dispute in Abuja.
