Nigerian Woman Says Husband Divorced Her for Giving Birth Through Caesarean Section
A woman from Adamawa has shared how her marriage ended because she delivered through surgery.
Her story has renewed conversations about stigma faced by mothers who give birth via caesarean section.
A Nigerian woman, Sumayya Hamman Adama, has revealed that her husband ended their marriage because she delivered their two children through caesarean section.

Sumayya, who is from Adamawa State, shared her experience on Sunday, November 16, 2025, while replying to a Facebook post that criticized men who look down on women for giving birth through CS. She explained that her ex-husband left the marriage simply because she could not deliver naturally.
According to her, the painful experience happened twice, and the marriage ended after the second delivery. She also disclosed that their first child died after the divorce.
In her words, “I have gone through this for the first and second birth, he divorce me because I was giving birth through CS. He can’t stay with me. But Alhamdulillah for everything. I lost the first baby, I am now with the second born. Alhamdulillah. May Almighty Allah rewards and bless anyone that is going through hard times.”
Her comment was in reaction to a post made by Facebook user Hudu Buithat, who condemned men who mock or belittle their wives because of a CS scar. Hudu pointed out that childbirth is equally difficult for all mothers, whether through surgery or not.
Part of the post read, “The way some men speak about their wives as if they were not birthed by a woman is nauseating… How the hell do you attribute a CAESARIAN SECTION scar to the character of a woman? Your mother failed you seriously.”
The post argued that men should value their wives the same way they value their mothers, as both go through the same sacrifice to bring children into the world.
