Samuel Anyanwu Rejects PDP Convention, Says Exercise Lacked Legitimacy
Samuel Anyanwu has dismissed the PDP’s latest national convention as invalid after his expulsion.
He said major processes were ignored, leaving the exercise far below the party’s expected standards.
Samuel Anyanwu, the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party who was recently expelled by a faction of the party, has strongly rejected the outcome of the party’s latest national convention. He described the gathering as an event that did not follow the rules expected of a major political organization. His reaction came shortly after he and a number of other party figures were officially removed from their positions.

The PDP held its national convention on Saturday, leading to the announcement of Kabiru Turaki, a former Minister of Special Duties, as the new National Chairman. The development has continued to generate mixed reactions within the party, especially among members who believe the process did not reflect fairness or proper internal structures.
Speaking in an interview after the convention, Anyanwu insisted that the entire exercise was not valid. He argued that the party ignored important steps that should have been completed before such a major national event. According to him, the convention was built on a weak foundation because several states had not conducted their congresses, which are necessary before delegates can participate in a national gathering.
He explained that sixteen states had yet to hold their congresses, adding that the entire South East also had no completed congresses. He said the situation created serious doubts about the credibility of the convention. In his words, what happened on Saturday appeared more like an informal show than a proper political event. He also noted that some earlier congresses in other states had not been formally communicated to the Independent National Electoral Commission, which is required for proper documentation.
Anyanwu stressed that a party that wants to be seen as a national platform must respect its own rules. He said the process that produced the new leadership fell short of expectations and should not be considered legitimate. He urged party members to reflect on the situation and push for a more transparent and organized approach to party administration.
