Speaking ahead of the event, the Rector, Dr. Ibraheem Abdul, said the college has made strong progress in the past year and is entering a new stage in its development. He noted that the convocation is especially important because it aligns with the institution’s 78th anniversary and comes shortly after the Federal Government, led by President Bola Tinubu, approved the upgrade of YABATECH to a University of Technology and Vocational Studies.

Activities for the ceremony started with a Jumat service, while the main highlight will be the convocation lecture on November 18. The lecture, titled Entrepreneurship development in the digital age: Leveraging technology for job creation and economic growth, will be delivered by the Senate Majority Leader, Michael Opeyemi Bamidele. The session will be chaired by Prof. Taiwo Oyedele, who heads the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms.

During the event, the college will also honor three distinguished personalities with its Fellowship Award. The recipients are Bamidele, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, also known as Yayi, and the Chairman of BUA Group, Abdul Samad Isyaku Rabiu. The institution said the awardees were selected based on their contributions to national development and support for education.

Dr. Abdul highlighted some of the key achievements of the college over the past year. One of the major breakthroughs is the Plastogas project, a research effort that converts waste plastics into gas. The initiative, supported by the French Embassy, has gained international attention and placed YABATECH among a small number of institutions working on this form of innovation.

The rector added that the school has made strong preparations for the convocation and assured parents, students, and invited guests that security, logistics, and health arrangements are fully in place. He said the celebration will recognize the efforts of the graduating students and reaffirm the college’s commitment to the country’s development.
