The Anambra State Police Command has taken a 20-year-old man into custody for allegedly att@cking a shop and ab3sing a 13-year-old girl in Umuezeiyi Village, Achina, in Aguata Local Government Area. The incident has raised serious concern in the community, especially after investigators confirmed that the suspect was armed at the time of the crime.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said in a statement on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, that the young man stormed a shop in the area on October 29 with a locally made single-barrel gun and a small axe. He reportedly stole N30,000 before seizing the girl and taking her into a nearby bush, where he allegedly ab3sed her. Ikenga explained that the suspect covered his face with a red polo shirt that he turned into a mask during the operation.

According to the police, officers attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Gender Unit, acting with the help of local security groups, arrested the suspect, identified as Chigbo Umeugokwe, on November 11. The PPRO noted that the suspect gave a voluntary statement during interrogation.

The police also recovered several items believed to have been used during the att@ck. These include the locally made gun, the axe and the red polo shirt. Ikenga said the command remains committed to ensuring that the minor gets justice and that offenders face the law without delay.

He added that the suspect will be taken to court on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, as part of efforts to conclude the investigation and begin the legal process.
