Police arrest two suspects in cement diversion scheme across four Nigerian states.

Social media used to extract dealer data as investigation uncovers wider criminal network.

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two suspects for allegedly diverting and illegally converting cement shipments across four states Anambra, Edo, Rivers, and Delta as part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on economic and cyber-related crimes.

The suspects, identified as Mr. Mmaduabuchi Udo and Mr. Abubakar Babangida, were apprehended on June 23, 2025, in Abuja by officers of the CP Monitoring Unit following a detailed intelligence-driven operation.

According to preliminary findings, the duo reportedly used social media platforms to target and gather sensitive operational details from unsuspecting cement dealers. Armed with this information, they allegedly orchestrated the diversion of cement consignments meant for legitimate businesses.

The case highlights the growing misuse of social media by criminal networks and reinforces the importance of safeguarding business information online.

The suspects are currently assisting investigators and have already provided valuable leads that may help uncover other members of the syndicate. They will be charged to court upon the completion of the ongoing investigation.

Commissioner of Police for Anambra State has assured the public that the Command remains committed to safeguarding lives, property, and the economic integrity of the state. Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or via the Command’s emergency lines.
