Daddy Freeze Questions Peter Obi’s Past Ties to Abacha Era

Daddy Freeze questions Peter Obi’s past, alleges link to Abacha-era port authority role.

Freeze insists he respects Obi but seeks clarity on ties to one of Nigeria’s darkest eras.

Nigerian media personality Ifedayo Olarinde, popularly known as Daddy Freeze, has raised questions about the political background of Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, citing alleged ties to Nigeria’s military regime under the late General Sani Abacha.

Speaking during a recent episode of The Honest Bunch Podcast, Daddy Freeze claimed that Obi once served as Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority during Abacha’s rule, a period widely regarded as one of the darkest in Nigeria’s political history.

“I love Peter Obi, I think he’s a brilliant man, but I cannot divorce him from the fact that he worked hand in hand with Abacha as the MD of the Nigerian Ports Authority. How can we have this great leader who’s a saint today, but worked with Abacha? It doesn’t make sense,” Freeze said.

Obi, served as the former governor of Anambra State, also was the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general election. He positioned himself as a reform-driven alternative to the dominant political figures and came third behind President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Despite not winning the election, Obi remains active in the political space, with growing interest around his potential candidacy in the 2027 polls. Daddy Freeze’s comments, however, call attention to Obi’s political past and question the consistency of his widely praised image.
