Ondo Police Arrest Three Over Death of Sex Worker in Akure Brothel

A brothel dispute in Akure has ended in tragedy, leaving one woman dead and three men arrested.

Police say efforts to retrieve money turned violent before the victim’s sudden collapse.

Three men have been arrested by the Ondo State Police Command in connection with the death of a commercial sex worker at a brothel located in the Cathedral area of Akure.

The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Sunday, June 29, following a disagreement between the deceased woman and a male client.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, the woman had informed the client that she could not continue with their arrangement due to a sudden onset of weakness. The man, apparently angered by her withdrawal, allegedly demanded a refund of N15,000.

Efforts by the brothel’s manager and others to resolve the situation amicably were unsuccessful. Not long after, the client returned with two other men, and the trio allegedly attempted to forcefully retrieve the money from the woman. This led the brothel manager to call the police.

Officers from the ‘A’ Division swiftly responded and found the men still trying to reclaim the cash. By then, the woman’s condition had deteriorated.

She was taken to a private hospital in the Lafe area, then referred to the Police Hospital, where she was sadly confirmed dead on arrival.

Her body has since been deposited at the State Specialist Hospital mortuary for autopsy.

Three suspects were arrested at the scene, while police say two additional suspects are still on the run.

Ondo State Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case. He assured the public that justice will be served and urged anyone with useful information to come forward to assist the ongoing investigation.
