Aviation Ministry and NAF Collaborate on Nigeria’s Inaugural International Airshow
Nigeria is gearing up for its first-ever International Airshow, set for December 2025 in Abuja.
Aviation ministry and Air Force have formed a committee to drive planning and coordination.
The Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, in collaboration with the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), has set up a joint committee to oversee preparations for Nigeria’s inaugural International Airshow, scheduled to take place in December 2025.

This initiative aims to enhance national collaboration in the aviation sector and support the development of the country’s aerospace workforce. The move was solidified during a recent courtesy visit by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, to the headquarters of the Nigerian Air Force.
During the meeting, Dr. Kana expressed appreciation to the Air Force for its unwavering professionalism and stressed the importance of a strong civil-military partnership in ensuring the success of the event. He noted that international airshows typically feature both commercial and military aviation displays, and called on the NAF to bring its expertise and resources to bear on the occasion.
Dr. Kana outlined several expectations for the Air Force’s involvement, including an impressive aerial display to highlight Nigeria’s air power and a ceremonial parade to welcome the President and visiting dignitaries. He also invited the Chief of Air Staff to participate in an upcoming meeting with ambassadors to Nigeria, coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and highlighted ongoing engagement with international airlines and aviation stakeholders who have pledged support for the event.
The newly constituted committee has been tasked with identifying a suitable venue and mobilising other key stakeholders. The airshow is expected to attract top global players in both civilian and defense aviation sectors, who will showcase a variety of aircraft, technologies, and services.
The event is projected to serve as a major platform for aviation-related business deals, while also boosting the country’s economy, cultural identity, and tourism potential.
Responding to the initiative, Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Bala Abubakar, affirmed the Air Force’s commitment to the project, describing it as a national milestone capable of enhancing Nigeria’s international image and economic outlook. He pledged full support from the NAF and assured that the Force would contribute both personnel and logistics to ensure the airshow’s success.
“Let the committee proceed to select the venue and begin work on all other modalities. We have capable hands ready to collaborate with the Ministry, and we must do everything possible to make this event a success,” Air Marshal Abubakar said.
The creation of this inter-agency committee marks a major milestone in Nigeria’s aviation journey, reflecting a united front by government institutions to promote innovation, attract investment, and display the country’s growing capabilities in the aerospace sector.
