SIM Service Interruptions Expected Nationwide Amid NIMC’s New Identity Verification Platform Rollout
SIM swaps, replacements, and activations may face delays as Nigeria upgrades identity verification systems.
ALTON urges subscribers to stay patient while technical issues linked to NIMC’s new platform persist.
The Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ALTON) has issued a warning to mobile subscribers nationwide about impending disruptions to SIM-related services. This comes as the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) implements a new identity verification platform designed to enhance the security and efficiency of identity management.
In a statement signed by ALTON Chairman Gbenga Adebayo and Publicity Secretary Damian Udeh, the association explained that the transition to the new platform has introduced unforeseen technical issues. These problems have affected the ability of mobile network operators to process SIM swaps, replacements, and new activations across Nigeria.
Mr. Adebayo stated, “The new platform aims to improve the integrity and efficiency of identity management systems. However, the transition has temporarily hindered Mobile Network Operators from offering seamless SIM-related services.”
Efforts are underway in collaboration with the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), NIMC, and other stakeholders to resolve the integration challenges. ALTON has advised subscribers to postpone SIM-related requests until the issues are resolved.
The association apologized for the inconvenience and reassured the public of its commitment to delivering secure and high-quality telecommunications services. It promised to provide timely updates as the situation evolves.
This development reflects the ongoing modernization of Nigeria’s identity management infrastructure and the temporary disruptions that can arise during such significant technological transitions.
